She didn’t belong

Her face is cupped in her hands

her elbows buried against the windowsill

Her eyes gaze out..

Life looks so beautiful, green and blue

birds chirping, children singing, and families eating

Yet, she still feels so lonely

as if no one understands her..even if they tried

as if she was born, meant to be misunderstood

She felt like a corpse without a soul

Perhaps, her soul was far off

Far off…dancing, with another soul

Maybe dancing with the very soul who made her feel this way

who made her feel like..

she didn’t belong

she wanted to smile, but her lips wouldn’t curl upwards

she wanted to laugh, but her voice was coiled in her throat

she wanted to dance, but her arms and legs refused

she wasn’t necessarily sad,

but she wasn’t happy either
